Men’s Soccer Falls to Saint Joseph’s in Wild Affair

Jacob Bohm Nets First Goal of the Season for Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 19, 2019) - Saturday night's men's soccer match had a little bit of everything, including a fury of chances in the second half by the Fordham Rams in an effort to rally from a two-goal deficit.  Unfortunately for the Rams, Fordham came up just short falling to the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 2-1, at Jack Coffey Field.

The loss puts Fordham at 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, 4-9-1 overall, while Saint Joseph's improved to 1-4 in the league, 5-9-1 on the year.

Saint Joseph's struck first in the fifth minute, as Leon Maric hit David Grana with a cross in front of the net and knocked in his second goal of the season.

The Hawks made it 2-0 in the 37th minute, as off a turnover Maric got the ball wide to Alvin Dahn for a semi-breakaway.  Dahn was able to get around Fordham goalkeeper Konstantin Weis and tuck the ball in for his fifth goal of the season.

The second half was almost all Fordham, pouring on the attack to get back in the game, totaling 16 shots in the half to Saint Joseph's three.

The Rams looked to have scored in the 59th minute on a give-and-go between Joergen Oland and Luke McNamara with McNamara scoring into the left side of the net.  However, the officials after a long discussion waved off the goal for an offside call.

Fordham would get credit for a goal just three minutes later, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Luca Fava took a corner from the far side, which found Jacob Bohm for a one-timer into the top left corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Rams kept the pressure going and in the 82nd minute as a loose ball came out to Andron Kagramanyan, who fired the ball toward an open net but was knocked away by a Saint Joseph's defender.

Fordham would fight until the final seconds when Johannes Pieles got a corner kick off to Filippo Ricupati in the box for a shot.  Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Joseph Boehm made the save on the Ricupati shot and was able to bleed out the clock and end the game at 2-1 in favor of the Hawks.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 23rd, when Fordham head to VCU for an Atlantic 10 contest, starting at 7:00 PM.
