Richmond, Va. – (October 23, 2019) – Every conference game heading into the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship in a few weeks will certainly be a battle and Wednesday night was no different between Fordham and VCU down in Richmond, Virginia. Neither team could come up with a deciding marker, as the teams played to a 0-0 double overtime draw at Sports Backers Stadium.
With the draw, Fordham moved to 3-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, 4-9-2 overall, while VCU is 4-1-1 in the league, 5-6-2 on the year.
Each goalkeeper, Fordham's
Konstantin Weis and VCU's Mario Sequeira, came up with four saves in the game as both recorded a shutout. For Weis, it was his fourth shutout of the season.
Johannes Pieles
For Sequeira, he needed some help to secure his shutout in the second session of overtime. Fordham has the ball in the offensive end and was lobbed into the box.
Johannes Pieles was able to head the ball away from the goalkeeper, out to
Jack Sluys. Sluys tried a lob shot to the left post and the open net, but a defender was able to clear the ball away and thus ended the game in a draw.
VCU ended the match with a 15-11 shots edge, but Fordham had more shots on goal at 5-4.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 26
th, as the Rams host George Mason for an Atlantic 10 match, beginning at 7:00 PM at Jack Coffey Field. It will be Senior Day for the Rams as they will honor its senior class prior to the game.
