Bronx, N.Y. – (September 6, 2018) – Yale's Ciara Ostrander scored in the 101
st minute of double overtime, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over the Fordham Rams on Thursday night in women's soccer action at Jack Coffey Field.
Thursday night's game ran the gamut when it came to weather, starting with sunshine in the afternoon and turning into thunderstorms and lightning, causing over an hour delay in the start of the game.
Once the game started, it was Fordham with the first scoring chance of the game in the 16
th minute, as
Juliana Mascelli connected on a bullet of a shot from the left side that Alyssa Fagel was able to grab for a save.
Yale's first chance came in the 37
th minute, when Noelle Higginson had a shot from distance that Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte was able to handle for her first save of the night, leaving the game scoreless at the half.
After an early chance in the second half by Yale was stopped by LaMorte, Fordham had a shot from
Margaret Roughley that just sailed high over the goal in the 50
th minute. Then in the 66
th minute,
Amanda Miller had an opportunity, but her shot could not find the net, as it was stopped by Fagel.
Neither squad registered a shot on goal the rest of the second half or the first session of overtime. However, in the 101
st minute of overtime, Yale's Ciara Ostrander lost the ball, eventually regained control on the left side of the box, and found the top left corner of the net from 13 yards out for the game-winning goal. It was her second goal of the season.
LaMorte finished the match with two saves for Fordham, while Fagel also had two for Yale.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 9
th, when the Rams continue their homestand against the Manhattan Jaspers. Game time is set for 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
