Hamden, Conn. – The Fordham men's tennis squad opened their 2018 fall season this weekend at the Quinnipiac Invitational, where
Fabian Hansch Mauritzson advanced to the A singles quarterfinals and two Rams' doubles pairs advanced to the semifinals.
In A singles play, Mauritzson defeated Wesleyan's Ali Mooraj 7-5, 6-1 in the round of 16 before falling to Quinnipiac's Aleksa Martinovic 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
Lutwin de Macar defeated UConn's Jack McLister 6-3, 6-7(2), 10-7 in the round of 32 before falling to Wesleyan's Andrew Finkleman 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.
In B singles play,
Alex Makatsaria defeated UConn's Evan Powell 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 32 before dropping a close three-set match to Quinnipiac's Alester Magalit 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 in the round of 16.
In the A doubles draw, after an opening round bye,
Max Green and
Finn Kemper defeated Quinnipiac's Freddie Zaretsky and Hielke Moore 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champions UConn's Hank Hill and Yili Zheng 6-3 in the semifinals.
In B doubles play, Mauritzson and
Jeremy Chung defeated Wesleyan's Peter Anker and Zach Lieb 7-6(3) in the round of 16 before falling to Quinnipiac 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Also in the B doubles draw,
Jofre Segarra and
Steven Duka defeated Quinnipiac's Jack Alexander and Bryan Schick 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to Wesleyan 6-1 in the semifinals.
The Rams return to action October 6-7 as they host the Fordham Four-In-The-Fall at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
