Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University football Rams open their 2018 season, the 118th varsity season at Rose Hill, by traveling to Charlotte, N.C., to face the Charlotte 49ers in Jerry Richardson Stadium on Saturday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Matt Swierad (p-b-p), Bobby Rosinski (color), and Libby Clark (sidelines) announcing and broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on WFUVsports.org with Raffaele Elia (p-b-p), Emmanuel Berbari (color) and Jimmy Sullivan (sidelines) handling the announcing chores.

Fordham enters the game off a 4-7 campaign last fall, 3-3 in the Patriot League, while Charlotte went 1-11 in 2017, 1-7 in Conference USA.

This will be the first meeting between Fordham and Charlotte on the gridiron. The Rams are 2-0 against teams currently in Conference USA, though both games were played when the opponent was not a member of the conference.

A few notes on the game:

• The Fordham University Rams are 49-31 all-time in season openers since 1920, 10-19 since moving to the NCAA FCS in 1989.

• Fordham head coach Joe Conlin is looking to become the fifth Fordham head football coach to win in his Fordham debut. He would join Joe Moorhead (2012), Dave Rice (1975), G. Dean Loucks (1972), James Crowley (1933) and Frank Cavanaugh (1927) in winning his Fordham debut.

• The Fordham University Rams are one of eleven NCAA FCS teams to have two wins over an FBS opponent since the 2013 season.

• The Fordham captains for 2018 are senior defensive back Dylan Mabin, and senior tight end Isaiah Searight.

• No New York area football team has won more games since 2012 than Fordham, who has amassed 50 victories over that stretch. The closest collegiate competitors are Stony Brook (40), Sacred Heart (36), and Rutgers (33), while the NFL's Giants and Jets have 42 and 38 wins, respectively, each.
