Baseball Rallies Past Fairfield, 4-3

Pinch-Hitter Justin Bardwell Gets Go-Ahead RBI-Double in the Eighth Inning

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 17, 2018) – Fordham pinch-hitter Justin Bardwell connected on an RBI-double in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Nick Labella, while Kyle Martin pitched a perfect ninth inning to give the Fordham Rams a 4-3 win over the Fairfield Stags at Houlihan Park on Tuesday.

With the win, Fordham is now 22-11-1 on the year, while Fairfield fell to 13-19 overall.

The Rams opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, as Jake MacKenzie lined a base hit to right, extending his hit streak to 10 games.  The right fielder misjudged his dive for the ball, allowing MacKenzie to reach third with a triple.  Billy Godrick then looped a single to center to score MacKenzie.
Fairfield answered with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  The Stags got an RBI-single by Mitch Williams and a bases loaded walk to Drew Arciuolo for the two runs in the fourth, while Jack Gethings hit a solo home run to right in the fifth, his second of the season.

Fordham tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth.  Jake Baker led off with a walk and stole second.  Reiss Knehr followed with an RBI-single through the right side to score Baker.  Knehr then stole second, while a failed pickoff attempt allowed him to go to third.  MacKenzie then plated Knehr with a ground out.

The score stayed tied at three until the bottom of the eighth, when Fordham took a 4-3 lead.  With two outs, Nick Labella drew a walk and then scored on a pinch-hit RBI-double down the right field line by Justin Bardwell.

At the plate, Knehr was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, while MacKenzie was 1-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.  C.J. Vazquez also had a pair of hits in the game.
