Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the George Mason University Patriots in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m.
The game has been designated Heritage and Hoops Night as Fordham Athletics is partnering with ASILI, the black student alliance at
Fordham, for a special ASILI t-shirt giveaway to all Fordham students. ASILI is also putting together a slideshow of African American Alumni to be played during the game and a local Bronx group, SEBNC Clovers, will be doing a step performance at halftime.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Mike Watts (p-b-p) and Andrew Bogusch (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with James Corrigan (p-b-p) and Vinny DeBellis (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 7-15 overall record, 2-8 in the Atlantic 10, after a 73-50 A-10 loss at Saint Louis last Saturday night while George Mason is 10-13 overall, 4-6 in the conference, after a 79-75 A-10 win at Richmond on Saturday afternoon.
Wednesday night's contest will be the ninth meeting between Fordham and George Mason on the hardwood with the Rams leading the all-time series, 6-2. Fordham took the first six meetings but the Patriots won both of last year's meeting, 73-67, on February 11 in Fairfax as Otis Livingston II scored 19 points and Marquis Moore added 15 points and eleven rebounds, and 82-71 in overtime at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships in Pittsburgh on March 9 as Marquise Moore scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and Livingston added 17 points.
Notes
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (14.1 ppg), has scored in double figures in 17 of his 21 games this year. He is currently 19th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 9.2 ppg (compared to 4.9 in the first half).
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.27.
• Chartouny has 222 career steals, good for fourth on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 404 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is fifth in the nation, in steals with 209 (9.7/game).
