Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's basketball team rebounded from last Wednesday's double overtime loss at Saint Louis by leading the entire way in an eventual 76-64 win over Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Fordham improves to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in Atlantic 10 action, while Rhode Island falls to 3-21 and 1-10, respectively.

"We will take everyone's best shot down the stretch and we need to continue to bring it every game," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "This one's in the right column."

The (Bronx) Rams jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes via four different scorers and never looked back, eventually pushing that lead to 21 midway through the second quarter. Rhode Island head coach Daynia La-Force called a timeout at that point, exactly two minutes into the contest, and the visitors scored their first basket right after the break, with Nicole Jorgensen hitting a jumper, the first two of an eventual game-high 35 from the center. Fordham was unfazed and continued to build its lead, finishing the first quarter with 31 points, the most in a single frame this season.

Rhody would get to within 13 before halftime when Jorgensen hit three consecutive baskets but Fordham upped that lead back to 16 at the interval, 47-31, a new season-high that beats Wednesday's 41 points at Saint Louis. Fordham started the second half on an 11-4 run over the opening six-and-a-half minutes but Rhode Island answered with a short 6-2 run to close out the period and would get as close as 10 down the stretch with a 17-10 fourth up to the 3:36 mark on 7-of-10 shooting. It was too late, however, as Fordham saw out the result comfortably.

G'mrice Davis tallied her 10th straight double-double and 20th on the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while matching her career-high of two blocks. Bre Cavanaugh set a new personal record with seven steals, second-most in a single game in school history, and chipped in 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists across all 40 minutes. Lauren Holden and Mary Goulding also finished in double figures, with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Goulding also co-led the squad with four dimes.

Fordham shot 50.0% from the field (29-of-58), the second time its shot that much or better this season, and 38.1% from behind the arc, but just 58.8% from the free-throw line. The hosts also won the battle of the boards, 33-26, including 13 offensive rebounds. The Rams also tallied a positive assist/turnover ratio (18/14) for the third time in their last four games and ninth overall.

The Rams have the week off before traveling to Davidson on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
