Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by traveling to Washington, D.C., to face the George Washington University Colonials in Smith Center on Wednesday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Bryon Kerr announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with James Corrigan (p-b-p) and Vinny DeBellis (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 9-19 overall record, 4-12 in the Atlantic 10, after a 73-60 A-10 loss to La Salle in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday afternoon while George Washington is 13-16 overall, 6-10 in the conference, after a 62-53 A-10 loss at Saint Louis on Saturday.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 32nd meeting between Fordham and George Washington on the hardwood with the Colonials leading the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season, 25-6, and have taken the past six matchups. George Washington took last year's meeting, 67-66, in the Rose Hill Gym on March 1 as Tyler Cavanaugh hit three free throws with under a second left, finishing with a game-high 20 points and he grabbed ten rebounds.
Notes
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (13.7 ppg), has scored in double figures in 20 of his 25 games this year. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 9.1 ppg (compared to 4.6 in the first half).
• After averaging just over 17 minutes per game over the first 20 contests this year, sophomore guard
Cavit Havsa has stepped up his game, playing all but 16 minutes over the past eight games.
• Havsa is averaging 9.3 ppg and 2.1 rpg over the past eight games, shooting .638 (30-47) from the field. He has also dished out 42 assists, including a career-high eight in the win over George Mason and the loss to Saint Joseph's, with just 17 turnovers, over that stretch.
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.38.
• Chartouny has 238 career steals, good for third place on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 420 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is sixth in the nation, in steals with 260 (9.3/game).
