Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the La Salle University Explorers in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, February 24, at 4:00 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Andrew Bogusch (p-b-p) and Kenny Ducey (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with James Corrigan (p-b-p) and Vinny DeBellis (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 9-18 overall record, 4-11 in the Atlantic 10, after a 76-52 A-10 loss at Davidson on Wednesday night while La Salle is 11-17 overall, 5-10 in the conference, after a 95-93 A-10 overtime loss to Rhode Island in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Saturday afternoon's contest will be the 55th meeting between Fordham and La Salle on the hardwood with the Explorers leading the all-time series, which started in the 1953-54 season, 37-17. La Salle took this year's first meeting, 75-67, in Philadelphia on January 17 behind 15 points and eight rebounds from Isiah Deas and 13 points and 14 boards from Saul Phiri.
Notes
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (13.5 ppg), has scored in double figures in 19 of his 24 games this year. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 8.8 ppg (compared to 4.7 in the first half).
• After averaging just over 17 minutes per game over the first 20 contests this year, sophomore guard
Cavit Havsa has stepped up his game, playing all but nine minutes over the past seven games.
• Havsa is averaging 8.7 ppg and 2.3 rpg over the past seven games, shooting .632 (24-38) from the field. He has also dished out 39 assists, including a career-high eight in the win over George Mason and the loss to Saint Joseph's, with just 15 turnovers, over that stretch.
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.36.
• Chartouny has 234 career steals, good for third place on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 414 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is sixth in the nation, in steals with 252 (9.3/game).
