Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the Saint Joseph's University Hawks in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m.
The matchup between Saint Louis and Fordham is part of the
Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. Dedicated to academic rigor, research, faith and serving others, Jesuit Catholic education stands at the intersection of minds, hearts and souls. The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS) is a nationwide effort to capitalize on basketball games between Jesuit schools and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Andrew Bogusch (p-b-p) and Kenny Ducey (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and
www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and Tom Scibelli (color) announcing.
Fordham enters the game with a 9-15 overall record, 4-8 in the Atlantic 10, after an 80-57 A-10 win at Duquesne on Saturday afternoon while Saint Joseph's is 10-14 overall, 5-7 in the conference, after an 85-73 A-10 win over UMass in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 55th meeting between Fordham and Saint Joseph's on the hardwood with the Hawks leading the all-time series, which started in the 1919-20 season, 36-18, and they have taken four of the past five over the Rams. Saint Joseph's took the first meeting this year, a 68-46, behind 25 points from James Demery and 22 from Pierfrancesco Oliva.
Notes
• Senior guard
Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (14.0 ppg), has scored in double figures in 19 of his 23 games this year with a double-double in each of the past two games. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 9.1 ppg (compared to 4.9 in the first half).
• After averaging just over 17 minutes per game over the first 20 contests this year, sophomore guard
Cavit Havsa has stepped up his game, playing all but one minute over the past four games.
• Havsa is averaging 8.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg over the past four games, shooting .706 (12-17) from the field.
• Junior guard
Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.35.
• Chartouny has 227 career steals, good for a third place tie on the Fordham all-time list.
• Chartouny has 406 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
• Fordham also leads the league, and is seventh in the nation, in steals with 229 (9.5/game).
