Bre Cavanaugh was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, after leading the Rams to a runner-up finish at the Gulf Coast Showcase. It is the second straight week that the program has earned the award after
Mary Goulding did so last week.
"It was a great weekend of competition and Bre rose to the occasion on the big stage," Head coach
Stephanie Gaitley said, "As she grows as a player we are growing as a team!"
Cavanaugh averaged 22.3 points over the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team, scoring back-to-back season-highs in scoring to advance the Rams to the championship game on Sunday. She also chipped in 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest, as well, across 37.3 minutes per game.
The Allamuchy, N.J. native converted a season-high 10 field goals, including four three-pointers, for 24 points, three boards, and an assist in a comeback win over Ball State in the opening round, then followed that up with a new season-high 25 points on 7-of-19 shooting, four more triples, and 7-of-9 makes from the free-throw line, to go with four boards, two assists, and four steals to handedly defeat Washington on Saturday. Against #10/9 Texas in the championship game, Cavanaugh poured in a game-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting, 3-of-9 from behind the arc, to go with three boards, three dimes, and a steal. Her buzzer-beating three at the end of the first quarter gave Fordham a 23-22 lead over the Longhorns.
The redshirt sophomore is averaging 19.4 points on the season to lead the Rams and is second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game, third with 16 assists, and leads the squad with seven steals. At the national level, she is second in the country with 129 field goal attempts and 20

This is Cavanaugh's first time earning Player of the Week honors. She was named Rookie of the Week on four occasions a year ago and was named to the All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie team following her freshman season. Prior to the start of this season, she was named to the preseason First Team.
