Women's Basketball Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

Anna DeWolfe, Eden Johnson, and Sarah Karpell Sign Their NLIs

Bronx, N.Y. – Head coach Stephanie Gaitley and the Fordham women's basketball program have today announced their three-member recruiting class of 2019. Signing their National Letters of Intent are Anna DeWolfe, Sarah Karpell, and Eden Johnson.

"We are extremely excited about our 2019 class" Gaitley said, "We feel that these are three quality student-athletes both on and off the court. We anticipate all three having an early impact on our program and being important pieces in contributing to our winning tradition."
 
DeWolfe is a 5'8 guard frorm Cumberland, Maine who earned four letters at Greely High School under head coach Todd Flaherty. A four-year team captain, DeWolfe has enjoyed a decorated high school career as a four-time member of the All-Western Maine First Team and All-State team, plus being named the Portland Press Herald's Player of the Year as a junior, a Gatorade State Player of the Year nominee her last three seasons, and a Miss Maine Basketball nominee as a junior and senior. DeWolfe is also a four-time Bangor Daily News MVP and helped Greely win the 2017-18 state championship. She wrapped up her junior campaign as her school's overall leading point scorer while averaging 22.9 points, 4.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game. She plays club ball with the Maine Firecrackers, winning national championships as a freshman and sophomore. She is also a four-year letterwinner on the Greely soccer team, helping her team to a state title her freshman year.

Eden Johnson

 
"Anna caught my eye her freshman year. She stood out as a player and as a leader. She has incredible court vision as well as the ability to read defenses. We anticipate her having an exciting career at Fordham."
 
Johnson is a 6'2 forward from Ann Arbor, Mich. She is a four-year letterwinner at Huron High School under head coach Waleed Samaha. Johnson has continued to improve each of her three previous seasons, starting as a Second Team All-Conference selection and SEC Rookie of the Year as a freshman. She was named a member of the First Teams for All-Conference, All-District, and All-Regional as a sophomore as well as Second Team All-State and Most Improve Player. As a junior, she earned First Team All-State distinction, SEC MVP, and was named to the Michigan Dream Team after averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 3 steals per contest. Johnson plays her club ball with Michigan's Finest, helping her team to a Slam Jam championship and the AYBT National Championship as a freshman, titles at the Saline Hornet Classic and Tecumseh Invitational as a sophomore, the USF team championship as a junior, and three more championships as a senior: the Louisville Classic, Toledo Open, and Run for the Rose tournament.
 
"Eden is an extremely versatile forward. She can step out and hit the three and create mismatches in the post. She is an incredible athlete who can play multiple positions."

Sarah Karpell
Karpell is a 5'7 guard from Holmdel, N.J. She earned four varsity letters at St. John Vianney High School under head coach Dawn Karpell. A two-time team captain, Karpell and the Lancers won the Tournament of Champions state championship during her freshman season as well as the Shoe Conference championship, finishing the year as a member of the NJ.com All-Freshman team, an accomplishment she matched the following year. During her previous three seasons, Karpell has helped the Lancers to a 79-9 overall record. She averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.9 steals per contest as a junior and earned Third Team All-State and All-County honors as well as Second Team All-Division. Karpell plays her club ball with Jersey Shore Elite, being named to the USJN Junior Nationals All-Tournament squad with averages of 12.8 points, 6 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Gold and White award.
 
"Sarah comes from a winning tradition at St. John Vianney. She plays for her mom, who was a great player. They are a top team in New Jersey and Sarah is a flat-out competitor and winner. She can knock down the three and is an outstanding defender. She will strengthen our backcourt and bring a winning attitude."
 
The Rams will graduate three this upcoming May and the class of 2019 will keep next year's roster at 16 players.
