Rowing Opens Fall Schedule at Head of the Housatonic

Shelton, Conn. - Fordham Women's Rowing kicked off fall season by racing at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta this last Saturday, October 6, at Indian Well State Park. The team entered six crews in three different events: Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ (Div. I), Women's Collegiate Novice 8+, and Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ (Div. I).
 
In the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ (Div. I) category, Fordham's 1st and 2nd varsity 8+s faced off against very tough competition from Yale, Brown, Syracuse, BU, Northeastern, and Boston College.  The 1st varsity 8+ placed 17th with a time of 16:13.1, defeating all three of the Boston College crews entered in the event as well as one of the Brown and BU crews.  The 2nd varsity 8+ placed 22nd with a time of 16:59.6, finishing in front of the Boston College B crew.

Fordham had just one crew entered in the Women's Collegiate Novice 8+ event, a relatively small event with just five entries.  The Fordham women placed 3rd with a time of 17:47.0, finishing behind BU and Northeastern while defeating Coast Guard and West Point.

Fordham raced three crews in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ (Div. I) event.  For the Fordham C crew, it was their one and only race of the day and they finished 13th in a time of 22:04.8.  For the Fordham A and B crews, it was their second race of the day as women who had raced in morning came together to practice their lineups which will compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) in two weeks.  The Fordham A crew, which will race as a Champ 4+ at HOCR, placed third in the event to bring home bronze medals.  They finished in a time of 18:10.6, only 23 seconds behind winner Northeastern and 13 seconds behind Boston College A.  They defeated crews from Northeastern, BU, Boston College and Trinity.  The Fordham B crew, which will compete as a Lightweight 4+ at HOCR, placed 12th with a time of 19:11.2,

The Rams showed a lot of potential as they raced against a very competitive field this last weekend.  The team will continue pushing to improve and gain boat speed as they compete this next weekend, Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Hadley Chase Regatta hosted by UMass.
