Bronx, N.Y. – (October 2, 2018) – Due to lightning in the area just at the end of regulation, the Fordham-Stony Brook men's soccer match was called a 0-0 scoreless draw after 90 minutes of action on Tuesday night at Jack Coffey Field.
The draw puts the 21
st-ranked Rams at 5-1-3 on the year, while Stony Brook moved to 5-3-2.
Though the game ended in the scoreless draw, it wasn't without its scoring chances. Fordham came out with the first two scoring chances in the fifth and eighth minute, respectively.
Andron Kagramanyan hit a drive that just sailed over the goal for the first chance, while
Sameer Fathazada hit the cross bar on the second.
From there, the goalkeepers took center stage, as Fordham's
Rashid Nuhu and Stony Brook's Christian Miesch each had their moments to keep the game scoreless.
Nuhu totaled five saves in the game, which included stopping Serge Gamwanya in the 21
st minute from ten yards out on the left side of the box. Miesch then stopped a breakaway attempt by
Janos Loebe in the 27
th minute.
The second half saw more chances but no goals, as Loebe got free off a pass from
Johannes Pieles, but shot over a sliding keeper sailed over the bar in the 70
th minute.
Stony Brook then knocked on the door in the 81
st minute, as Gustavo Fernandes re-directed a cross but it went right into Nuhu for the save. The Seawolves then thought they had scored on a quick throw-in, which eventually was knocked into the net by a Fordham player in the 82
nd minute. However, the referee blew a whistle just after the throw-in, which should have stopped play, so the game re-started with goal coming off the board.

The Seawolves had one more big chance in the 86
th minute, as Gabriel Fernandes got loose for a semi-breakaway shot from ten yards on the right side, but Nuhu made a kick save and smothered the ball to keep the game scoreless.
Fordham then had its final chance in the 89
th minute on a free kick by Loebe about 35 yards out.
Sindri Ingimarsson headed the cross toward goal, which was knocked down by Miesch and grabbed by the goalkeeper right at the left post.
As regulation time ended, the field was cleared due to lightning in the area, and it was mutually decided with thunderstorms beginning to roll in that the game end in a draw.
For Nuhu, it marked his third shutout of the season and the 27
th of his career, which moves him into a tie for second on Fordham's all-time shutouts list with Jeff Knuth (1984-87).
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 6
th, when the Rams travel to Saint Joseph's for an Atlantic 10 match, beginning at noon.
