Hadley, Mass. - Last Saturday, October 13th, the Fordham women's rowing squad competed at the Hadley Chase Regatta hosted by UMass at their home course on the Connecticut River. The regatta was a short event with all three Fordham crews entered in the same Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ event. The first, second and third varsity 8+ crews placed eighth, tenth, and 20th, respectively, in a field of 25 crews.

After experiencing some difficulty navigating the start, the first varsity 8+ boat finished the 5k course in a time of 16:25.5, only nine seconds behind the first varsity 8+ of conference competitor, UMass. The second varsity 8+ finished only 0.6 seconds behind the first varsity, completing the course in 16:26.1. The UMass second varsity 8+ managed to squeeze between the Fordham first and second 8s to take ninth place in a time 16:25.8. The racing was highly competitive and both Fordham first and second varsity 8+ boat beat crews from Smith College, Mount Holyoke, US Coast Guard Academy, Fairfield, and Manhattan College.

The third varsity 8+ crew finished in a time of 17:38.5 which placed them less than nine seconds behind the UMass third varsity 8+ crew. Fordham's 3V8+ finished in front of both Fairfield crews, as well as crews from US Coast Guard Academy, Manhattan College, and the University of Vermont.
