Bronx, N.Y. – Behind a pair of goals from
Carlie Wagner and a combined four saves from the goalkeeping duo of
Kelly LaMorte and
Colleen Hickey, the Fordham women's soccer team earned its first home win of the season, defeating the Columbia Lions, 2-0, at Jack Coffey Field on Friday night.
With the win, Fordham improved to 3-2-3 on the year, while Columbia fell to 3-3-1.
Fordham struck early in the 13
th minute to grab a 1-0 lead.
Morgan Busacca controlled the ball 30 yards from goal on the left side. She turned and crossed the ball to the right side of the field, finding
Carlie Wagner. Wagner one-touched around a Columbia defender, and placed a perfect shot inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
The score remained at 1-0 until the 63
rd minute, when
Morgan Busacca had a pair of assists on Friday.
Busacca and Wagner combined for their second tally of the night, making it 2-0. Off a Columbia defender, Busacca headed the ball to Wagner on a run toward the top of the box. Wagner then wound up a shot from 20 yards out on the right side, picking the top left corner of the net for her second marker of the game.
The two goals were enough offense for Fordham, as the Rams held Columbia to only four shots on frame with
Kelly LaMorte making three saves in the first half, while
Colleen Hickey had one in the second half. It marked the fourth team shutout of the season for Fordham.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 17
th, as the Rams will host Hartford for a 1:00 PM game on Alumni Day.
