Women’s Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw with Seton Hall in Home Opener

Amanda Miller Scores Second Goal of the Season for Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's soccer team opened the home portion of its schedule on Thursday night, playing to a 1-1 draw with the Seton Hall Pirates at Jack Coffey Field.

With the draw, Fordham is now 2-1-1 on the year, while Seton Hall moved to 0-2-1.

Seton Hall scored the opening goal of the contest in the sixth minute.  Marissa Aniolowski cut a cross to the top of the box, where Lauren Hall scored inside the right post from 18 yards.

The score remained at 1-0 until the early moments of the second half, when Fordham tied the score at one.  Natalie Sims connected on a long pass forward to Amanda Miller.  Miller hit the brakes to get away from a defender, pulled back, and ripped a bullet into the top left corner of the goal from 15 yards out for her second goal of the season.

Crea Baker-Durante just went over her head eight yards out from goal. In missing Miller, it led to another chance, as Juliana Mascelli got the ball right at the corner of the six-yard box and fired a shot that Seton Hall goalkeeper Anna MacLean made the save on.

The Rams continued to press the attack in the waning moments of regulation.  Mascelli had another chance in the 87th minute on a cross from Miller, but the shot sailed high over the goal.  Then in the final minute, Miller, from almost the same spot she scored from earlier, once again tried to pick the top left corner, but the ball just went over the corner of the net and out of play, moving the game into overtime.

In overtime, the best scoring chance was a Seton Hall shot by Lauren Dao in the second 10-minute session that Fordham goalkeeper Kelly LaMorte handled for the save, leaving the game as a 1-1 draw.

LaMorte made one save in the game for Fordham, while MacLean had three for Seton Hall, as the Rams outshot the Pirates, 12-2.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 3rd, when the Rams host Holy Cross at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 1:00 PM.
