Fairfield, Conn. – Fairfield's Jack Gethings registered three hits, while Drew Blake drove in two runs, as the Stags topped the Fordham Rams, 6-3, at Alumni Diamond, snapping the Rams' five-game win streak.
With the loss, Fordham goes to 18-14 on the year, while Fairfield improved to 18-14.
Fairfield started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, scoring three times, which was highlighted by RBI-singles from Michael Conti and Jack Gethings.
Fordham answered with two runs in the third inning, making it a 3-2 ballgame.
Brian Goulard opened the frame with a single to right, which was followed by a shot over the centerfielder's head by
Reiss Knehr for an RBI-triple. Two outs later,
Jake Baker singled through the right side to score Knehr.
The Stags regained their three-run edge with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as Drew Blake hit a solo home run to right, while Troy Scocca picked up an RBI-double.
The Rams came back with a long ball of their own, as
Justin Bardwell drilled a solo home run to left for his first of the season, making it a 5-3 deficit.
Anthony Zimmerman had a career-best four strikeouts on Tuesday.
Blake though would deliver an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Stags their three-run cushion back at 6-3.
The Rams tried to rally in the ninth, as
Jason Lundy drew a walk and Knehr singled with one out, but pinch-hitter
Pat Gardner grounded into a double play to end the game.
For Fordham, Knehr was 2-for-4 with an RBI-triple, while Baker and Bardwell each had a hit and an RBI.
Mike Cowell (0-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Anthony DiMeglio pitched 1.1 innings of relief in his first action since early March, allowing two hits, with
Shane McDonald giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Anthony Zimmerman finished the game, allowing one run on three hits over three innings with a career-best four strikeouts.
The Rams are right back in action on Wednesday, when Fordham hosts Columbia at 5:00 PM at Houlihan Park.
