Men’s Basketball Hosts La Salle on Wednesday

Rams look to win second straight

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University Rams continue their 2016-2017 Atlantic 10 season, the 114th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the La Salle University Explorers in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Andrew Bogusch (p-b-p) and Darwin Zook (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and James Decker (color) announcing. Follow the links above.
 
Fordham enters the game with a 10-13 overall record, 4-6 in the Atlantic 10, after an 86-83 Atlantic 10 double overtime win at Saint Joseph's on Saturday night, while La Salle is 12-9 on the season, 6-4 in the A-10, after falling at George Mason, 95-75, on Saturday night.
 
Wednesday night's contest will be the 52nd meeting between Fordham and La Salle on the hardwood with the Explorers leading the all-time series, which started in the 1953-54 season, 34-17. Fordham has taken the past three meetings, including two last season, a 66-61 win in the Rose Hill Gym on January 6 as Ryan Rhoomes netted 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Rams and a 56-53 victory in Philadelphia on February 24 as Christian Sengfelder scored 16 points and added eight rebounds.
 
Notes
 
• Sophomore guard Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA in steals/game, averaging 3.45 and is second in the league and 36th in the country in assists/game (5.4). He tied his career-high with seven steals against Rutgers.
 
• Chartouny's 76 steals in 2016-2017 is the second best single season total in school history (school record is 78 by Jason Harris in 1999-2000).
 
• Junior forward Christian Sengfelder has made 144 career three-pointers, the tenth best total in school history.
 
• Graduate transfer Javontae Hawkins netted his 1,000th collegiate point in the VCU game, leading the Rams with 22 points in the contest. Hawkins has 1,043 career points as a collegiate (224 at South Florida, 511 at Eastern Kentucky and 308 at Fordham).
 
• The Rams lead the Atlantic 10 and are third in the NCAA in steals per game (10.2) and are fourth in total steals (235).
 
• Fordham has recorded double digit steal totals in 15 of the 23 games this year.
 
• The Rams are also second in the NCAA in turnover margin (5.6) and turnovers forced (18.61/game).
