Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match at Dayton

Rams Fall to Three-Time Defending Champion Flyers on the Road

Box Score (pdf)

Dayton, Ohio – Like Friday night at Saint Louis, the Fordham volleyball team found itself sharing one set apiece on the road against a top conference foe but was unable to see out the match, falling to Dayton in four sets, 25-16, 18-25, 25-9, 25-12. With the loss, the Rams drop to 12-14 on the year and 4-9 in Atlantic 10 action, while the Flyers improve to 20-7 and 11-1, respectively. Fordham finishes its regular season at Rhode Island next Friday night with a chance to clinch a postseason berth.

The Flyers were clinical in the opening set, with 13 kills and no errors on 28 attacks (.464). The Rams had the same number of kills but seven errors (.171), as the hosts eased to a 25-16 score. Fordham rallied in the second set, however, and coasted to a 25-18 scoreline on the backs of 14 combined kills from Olivia Fairchild, McKenna Lahr, and Molly Oshinski. The Flyers struggled, with eight errors in the frame, as well.

Dayton came out of the long break and secured the final two sets, first with an ultra-efficient third frame, hitting .577 as a squad, and again hitting .308 as a group in set four.

Fairchild paved the way with a match-high 15 kills, following by Lahr's 12 and Oshinski's eight. Fairchild and Lahr each tallied 11 digs for double-doubles, with the former chipping in an ace and three assists. Nicole Freeley and Lahr each posted two blocks, sharing the team-high, and Morgan Williams notched 16 digs.

The Rams have one final regular season contest – at Rhode Island next Friday night at 7 p.m. Rhody currently sits one spot ahead of Fordham in the standings.
