Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to VCU, 1-0

Battle Between Two of the Atlantic 10’s Best Goes to VCU

Bronx, N.Y. – In a re-match of last year's Atlantic 10 Championship match, Francesco Amorosino's goal in the 33rd minute proved to be the lone goal of the game on Saturday night, as the VCU Rams topped the Fordham Rams, 1-0, at Jack Coffey Field.

The loss snaps Fordham's seven-match unbeaten streak, dropping the Maroon and White to 7-3-2 on the season, 1-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while VCU improved to 5-3-0, 2-0-0 in the Atlantic 10.

The lone goal of the game came in the 33rd minute, as Fortia Munts found Ryo Shimazaki for a run down the right side.  Shimazaki cut a cross to Francesco Amorosino in front of goal, as he one-timed a 15-yard shot to the left side past a diving Rashid Nuhu for his third goal of the year.

The Rams tried to find the equalizer over the next 57 minutes with the best chance coming in the 75th minute.  Matt Miller went on a run to the top left corner of the box, driving a shot from 20 yards out, that VCU goalkeeper Mario Sequeira made a diving stop to the left post to keep VCU ahead.

That was Sequeira's only save in the 1-0 victory for VCU.  Nuhu finished the match with four saves for Fordham.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 11th, when the Rams play at St. Bonaventure, beginning at 7:00 PM.
