Men’s Soccer Shuts Out La Salle, 1-0

Jacob Bohm Scores First Career Goal in Rams’ Victory

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham's Jacob Bohm scored in the 73rd minute to break open a scoreless game, while Rashid Nuhu made five saves, as the Rams defeated the La Salle Explorers, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action on Wednesday night at Jack Coffey Field.

With the win, Fordham (7-2-2, 1-0-1 A10) extends its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1), the longest such streak since 2006, when the Rams had a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3).  The loss moved La Salle to 4-6-1 on the year, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10.

The first prime scoring chance came for Fordham in the 23rd minute, when Janos Loebe wound up a shot from the right side that was stopped by La Salle keeper Mark Tobin.  The rebound came out to Jacob Bohm, who lifted the second chance over the goal.

At the other end, Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu was sharp, stopping chances by Kenny Lassiter in the 26th minute and Sixtus Akinlosotu in the 36th minute to keep the game scoreless.

In the second half, La Salle threatened with another shot by Akinlosotu in the 63rd minute, but

Nuhu was again up to the task to keep the Explorers at bay.

The Rams finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute off a set piece.  Jannik Loebe took a corner kick from the left side, finding Christopher Bazzini on the right side of the six-yard box.  Bazzini headed the ball back across to the left side, where Matthew Lewis headed the ball to the center of the box to Bohm.  Bohm then quickly volleyed a shot from 11 yards into the top right corner of the goal for his first career marker.

La Salle did not go away quietly after the Fordham goal, as Nuhu had to come up with one more, big save in the 74th minute.  Jesper Lenander fired a shot from 24 yards out, aiming for the left side of the goal, but Nuhu made a diving stop to wrap up the 1-0 shutout victory.

Nuhu ended the game with five saves for his seventh shutout of the season for Fordham, while Tobin made three stops for La Salle.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 7th, when the Rams host VCU at Jack Coffey Field in a re-match of last year's Atlantic 10 Championship game, beginning at 7:00 PM.
