Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham's
Jacob Bohm scored in the 73
rd minute to break open a scoreless game, while
Rashid Nuhu made five saves, as the Rams defeated the La Salle Explorers, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action on Wednesday night at Jack Coffey Field.
With the win, Fordham (7-2-2, 1-0-1 A10) extends its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1), the longest such streak since 2006, when the Rams had a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3). The loss moved La Salle to 4-6-1 on the year, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10.
The first prime scoring chance came for Fordham in the 23
rd minute, when
Janos Loebe wound up a shot from the right side that was stopped by La Salle keeper Mark Tobin. The rebound came out to
Jacob Bohm, who lifted the second chance over the goal.
At the other end, Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu was sharp, stopping chances by Kenny Lassiter in the 26
th minute and Sixtus Akinlosotu in the 36
th minute to keep the game scoreless.
In the second half, La Salle threatened with another shot by Akinlosotu in the 63
rd minute, but
Rashid Nuhu makes a diving stop to keep La Salle at bay.
Nuhu was again up to the task to keep the Explorers at bay.
The Rams finally broke the deadlock in the 73
rd minute off a set piece.
Jannik Loebe took a corner kick from the left side, finding
Christopher Bazzini on the right side of the six-yard box. Bazzini headed the ball back across to the left side, where
Matthew Lewis headed the ball to the center of the box to Bohm. Bohm then quickly volleyed a shot from 11 yards into the top right corner of the goal for his first career marker.
La Salle did not go away quietly after the Fordham goal, as Nuhu had to come up with one more, big save in the 74
th minute. Jesper Lenander fired a shot from 24 yards out, aiming for the left side of the goal, but Nuhu made a diving stop to wrap up the 1-0 shutout victory.
Nuhu ended the game with five saves for his seventh shutout of the season for Fordham, while Tobin made three stops for La Salle.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 7
th, when the Rams host VCU at Jack Coffey Field in a re-match of last year's Atlantic 10 Championship game, beginning at 7:00 PM.
