Kingston, R.I. – Behind second half goals by
Jacob Bohm and
Jannik Loebe and four saves from
Rashid Nuhu, the Fordham men's soccer team shut out the Rhode Island Rams, 2-0, at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I.
With the win, Fordham improved to 10-3-2 on the year, 4-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island fell to 8-4-3 overall, 3-2-1 in the league. This marks the fourth time in the last eight seasons that Fordham has reached the 10-win plateau.
After a scoreless first half, Fordham opened the scoring in the 51
st minute.
Rashid Nuhu recorded his tenth shutout of the year on Saturday.
Andron Kagramanyan played a through ball to
Jacob Bohm, who fired a hard shot over URI goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm into the top left corner of the goal for his third goal of the year and third in the last five games.
Fordham then sealed away the win with a second goal in the 83
rd minute, when
Jannik Loebe scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0. In transition, Jannik made a run up the left side, finding
Janos Loebe with a pass. Janos returned the favor with a slip pass through the URI defense, which Jannik finished into the net.
The two goals were enough for Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu and the Fordham defense, as they racked up their tenth shutout of the season. Nuhu made four stops in the win, joining Jeff Knuth in 1987 and Ryan Meara in 2011 as the only Ram goalkeepers to have ten shutouts in a single season.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 28
th, when the Rams host Saint Louis for Senior Night at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 7:00 PM.
