Men’s Basketball Travels to UMass on Saturday

Rams look to win second straight

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University Rams continue their 2016-2017 Atlantic 10 season, the 114th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by traveling to Amherst, Mass., to face the University of Massachusetts in the Mullins Center on Saturday, January 21, at 12:30 p.m.
 
The game will be televised and streamed live on the NBC Sports Network with Paul Burmeister (p-b-p) and Jordan Cornette (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and Pat Costello (color) announcing. Follow the links above.
 
Fordham enters the game with an 8-11 overall record, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10, after a 69-67 overtime conference win over VCU in the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night, while Massachusetts is 12-7 on the season, 2-4 in the A-10, after defeating Saint Joseph's, 62-57, on Wednesday night in Amherst.
 
Wednesday night's contest will be the 44th meeting between Fordham and Massachu­setts on the hardwood with the Minutemen leading the all-time series, which started in the 1967-68 season, 29-14. The Rams won both of last year's first matchups, a 78-72 in overtime win in on January 30 Amherst as Joseph Char­touny scored 18 points and added ten rebounds and David Pekárek added eleven points, and 76-66 in the Rose Hill Gym on February 17 as Chartouny netted 16 points and dished out eight assists.
 
Notes
 
• Sophomore guard Joseph Chartouny is second in the NCAA in steals/game, averaging 3.56 and is third in the league and 53rd in the country in assists/game (5.2). He tied his career-high with seven steals against Rutgers.
 
• Graduate transfer Javontae Hawkins netted his 1,000th collegiate point in the VCU game, leading the Rams with 22 points in the contest. Hawkins has 1,005 career points as a collegiate (224 at South Florida, 511 at Eastern Kentucky and 270 at Fordham).
 
• The Rams lead the Atlantic 10 and are fourth in the NCAA in steals per game (10.2) and total steals (196).
 
• Fordham has recorded double digit steal totals in 13 of the 19 games this year.
 
• The Rams are also second in the NCAA in turnover margin (5.9) and third turnovers forced (19.11/game).
