Bronx, N.Y. - Quinnipiac's Conor McCoy scored the only goal of the contest off a corner kick in the eighth minute, while Chrys Iakovidis made three saves, as the Bobcats spoiled the Fordham Rams' home opener in men's soccer action on Friday night at Jack Coffey Field.
With the loss, Fordham goes to 0-2-1 on the year, while Quinnipiac improved to 1-2-0.
The only goal of the game came in the eighth minute, when Quinnipiac capitalized on a set piece. James Doig took the corner kick from the left side and found the head of Conor McCoy from four yards out for his first goal of the season.
Jannik Loebe had three shots on Friday.
Fordham looked for the equalizer over the next 82 minutes, but none of the Rams' 15 shots could reach the back of the net.
The best chances for Fordham came in the second half off the boot of
Janos Loebe. In the 50
th minute, Loebe connected on a shot that was headed for goal but was deflected away by a Quinnipiac defender. Later in the half, Loebe rung a shot off the crossbar and left post in the 81
st minute, leaving Fordham with a 1-0 loss in the team's first ever meeting with Quinnipiac.
