Bronx, N.Y. – As most people were heading home from Labor Day weekend, the Fordham men's soccer team put in some extra work on Monday, and it paid off, when Cole Stevenson scored 39 seconds into overtime, giving Fordham a 2-1 victory over the Fairfield Stags at Jack Coffey Field.

With the win, Fordham picked up its first win of the season to improve to 1-2-1 on the year, while Fairfield fell to 1-1-2.

Fairfield opened the scoring in the eighth minute of action.  Dominic Marshall took the initial shot for the Stags, which deflected off a Fordham defender right to Ben Wignall.  Wignall then laced a shot inside the left post from 25 yards out for his third goal of the season.

The score remained that way until the 52nd minute, when Fordham knotted the game as one.  Janos Loebe crossed the ball from the left side of the field to the right side of the box.  Jannik Loebe got off a header shot that deflected off a defender up in the air.  Eric Ohlendorf then headed that deflection into the goal for his first of the season, and the second of his career.

The Rams then relied on the goalkeeping talents of Rashid Nuhu to keep the game tied at one.  In the 68th minute, Nuhu came up with back-to-back diving saves on Wignall, while in the 73rd minute, Nuhu stopped a shot from James Contino, reaching behind and stopping the ball just short of the goal line.

The game remained tied into overtime, when Fordham struck quickly to capture the 2-1 win.  On a rush, Ohlendorf slipped a pass to the penalty spot, where Cole Stevenson drove in the game-winning goal for his second marker of the season, just 39 seconds into the extra session.

Nuhu finished with four saves in the win, while Fairfield's Joe Martin had four saves through 83 minutes before he left the game with an injury.  Jack Robinson played the remainder of the game in goal for the Stags.

The Fordham men's soccer team finishes up a three-game homestand on Friday, September 9th, when the Rams host Lafayette at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
