Chicago, Ill. – (August 21, 2016) – Fordham's
Brooke Salmon scored in the 19
th minute, while
Adaeze Obinelo recorded two saves, as the women's soccer team shut out the Loyola Ramblers, 1-0, at Loyola Soccer Park in Chicago, Illinois.
With the win, Fordham improves to 1-0-1 on the year, while Loyola fell to 0-1-1.
For the second straight game, Fordham found the back of the net first in the 19
th minute.
Brooke Salmon picked up a loose ball at the top of the arc, and blasted a shot inside the near post past a diving Maddie Ford for her first goal of the season, and the second of her career.
Adaeze Obinelo recorded two saves on Sunday for her second career shutout.
The Rams kept the pressure on throughout the opening stanza, outshooting Loyola, 8-4, but remained ahead by the 1-0 margin at halftime.
Fordham almost made it 2-0 in the 76
th minute, as
Margaret Roughley put a shot toward net with Ford out of position, but a Loyola defender came across for the defender save.
Fordham's defense protected the 1-0 margin, allowing just two shots on goal in the second half that Fordham goalkeeper
Adaeze Obinelo handled, pitching her second career shutout.
The Rams ended the match with an 11-7 shot edge, and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, August 26
th, when the Rams play at Princeton, beginning at 7:00 PM.
