Fairfax Station, Va. - The Fordham women rowing squad took third at the Atlantic 10 Championships today at the Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Regional Park, matching the best ever finish for the Rams at the championship.

Rhode Island and Massachusetts tied for the team competition with 51 points each but Rhode Island was awarded the championship due to a better finish in the varsity 8. Fordham placed third with 37 points followed by Duquesne (35), Saint Joseph's (30), George Washington (30), Dayton (16), George Mason (14) and La Salle (3).

The third place finish matches Fordham's best ever showing at the championships by the 1998 and 1999 crews.

Following the championship, three Rams earned All-Conference honors with
Fiona Murtagh and
Ashley Hawkesworth being placed on the first team and
Maura O'Donnell on the second.

In the varsity 8 final, the Rams placed fourth in 7:55.93, behind the winner, Rhode Island, UMass and Duquesne but in front of Saint Joseph's and George Washington.

The Rams advanced to the finals by placing second in their heat in 7:12.87, behind UMass, but ahead of Duquesne and Dayton.

The Fordham second varsity took third in the finals in 8:22.76, behind UMass and Rhode Island and in front of George Washington, Duquesne and Saint Joseph's. The second varsity 8 advanced to the finals after taking third in its heat in 7:23.58, behind UMass and George Washington but well in front of George Mason.

The Rams' third varsity 8 finished fifth in 8:16.48, behind Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's, George Washington and Duquesne and in front of Dayton.

The Fordham varsity 4 placed third in its heat in 8:30.39, behind UMass and George Washington but ahead of Dayton. In the finals, the Fordham varsity 4 took fifth in 9:03.77, behind UMass, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's and George Washington but in front of Duquesne.
