Rowing Competes at Dad Vails

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's crew traveled south over the weekend to compete at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River where the Rams' varsity 8 shell placed fourth in the championship final and the junior varsity 8 took third in the championship final.
 
The varsity 8 got things started with a win in its heat on Friday in 7:05.816, easily defeating Army, Florida and Vassar to advance to the semifinals where they again won on Saturday morning, bettering their time over the course to 6:42.438, edging Grand Valley State the line by just over a second and finishing in front of Purdue, Case, La Salle and Marquette.
 
In the Evelyn Bergman Trophy championship final, the Rams placed fourth in 7:01.509, just 0.239 seconds behind third place Delaware. UMass won the event followed by Drexel, Delaware, Fordham, Grand Valley State and Duquesne.
 
The junior varsity 8 also won its heat, covering the course in 7:09.206, 1.651 seconds faster than Drexel and ahead of Duquesne and Purdue to advance to the finals. In the Coleman D. Boylan Championship final, the Rams placed third in 7:37.190, behind UMass and Drexel but ahead of Duquesne, Saint Joseph's and Delaware.
 
The women's frosh/novice four boat took second in its heat in 8:41.253, behind Bowdoin but in front of Army, NYU, Bryn Mawr and Ohio University, to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, the Rams placed sixth in 8:51.496, behind UMass, Lafayette, Central Oklahoma, Villanova and MIT.
 
Fordham also had an entry in the third varsity 8 race which placed fourth in 8:15.069, behind Bucknell, Delaware and Duquesne and ahead of Saint Joseph's and Villanova.
