Bronx, N.Y. - Rhode Island's Tyler Wilson struck 10 batters in a complete game, four-hitter, while Martin Figueroa hit his fourth home run of the year, as URI edged out the Fordham Rams, 3-1, at Houlihan Park in Atlantic 10 action on Friday night.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 17-18 on the year, 4-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island improved to 13-15 overall, 5-2 in the conference.

The game was a pitcher's duel from the start between Rhode Island's Tyler Wilson and Fordham's Kirk Haynes, Jr., as the game was scoreless through five innings with Haynes allowing just one hit, while Wilson gave up two.

Rhode Island then solved Haynes in the sixth, when Martin Figueroa hit a solo home run to left center, his team-leading fourth of the year, for a 1-0 lead.

URI extended its lead to 3-0 in the eighth inning, taking advantage of a Fordham error, which led to an RBI-double by Jordan Powell and an RBI-ground out by Figueroa.

Fordham then got on the board in the bottom of the inning, when Ian Edmiston singled to right field, which the right fielder misplayed, allowing Edmiston to go to third on the play.  He then scored on a passed ball.

That was all the offense Fordham could get against Wilson, who gave up four hits on the night and just the one unearned run, while striking out 10 batters, improving his record to 6-1.

For Fordham, Haynes, Jr. (3-2) was the hard luck loser in the game, allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts over seven-plus innings.  Anthony DiMeglio and Reiss Knehr each threw an inning of relief, with DiMeglio giving up one unearned run and Knehr posting two strikeouts.  Edmiston had two of Fordham's four hits, while Justin Bardwell and Mark Donadio each had one.

The same two teams match-up on Saturday for game two, beginning at 2:00 PM.
