Rowing Competes at Knecht Cup

Varsity 8 wins third final, second varsity 8 wins petite final

West Windsor Township, N.J. – The Fordham women's crew traveled down to Mercer Lake to compete in the 2016 Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday where the varsity 8 won the third final and the second varsity 8 won the petite final.
 
The varsity 8 opened the regatta by placing third in its heat in 7:23.96, behind Boston University and Old Dominion but well in front of SMU and Marist.
                               
The third place finish advanced the Rams to the semifinals where they placed sixth in 6:59.70 to move to the third final. Fordham placed behind Wisconsin, Miami, Kansas, Drexel and SMU in the semifinals.
 
In the third final, Fordham beat Nova Southeastern to the line by almost six seconds, covering the course in a time of 6:57.07. Following Nova Southeastern were Delaware, SMU, Duquesne and Connecticut.
 
The Fordham second varsity 8 opened competition by placing fourth in its heat in a time of 7:39.00, behind Boston College, Connecticut and Drexel but ahead of Delaware and Marist.
 
In the semifinals, the Rams placed third in 7:03.45, behind Wisconsin and Massachusetts but in front of Drexel, Old Dominion and Miami to advance to the petite final.
 
In the petite final, the Rams beat Drexel to the finish line by 1.83 seconds, winning in a time of 6:55.99. Following Drexel were Temple, West Virginia, Boston University and Alabama.
 
Fordham also raced a novice 4, a varsity 4, a second varsity 4 and a novice 8.
 
The novice 4 placed fourth in its heats in 9:44.32, behind Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Buffalo but ahead of NYU and Stockton.            
 
The second varsity 4 took fifth in its heat in 9:07.11, behind Kansas, Alabama, Marist and Holy Cross.
 
The varsity 4 placed sixth in its heat behind Old Dominion, Marist, Massachusetts, Miami, and West Virginia.
 
The novice 8 placed fifth in its heat behind Army, Delaware, Kansas and Pittsburgh.
 
The Fordham crew returns to action next Saturday, April 16, as they compete in the Kerr Cup on the Schuykill River in Philadelphia.
