Follow on Twitter Bronx, N.Y. – When the Fordham University Rams continue their 2016 Atlantic 10 season, the 113th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the St. Bonaventure University Bonnies in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, February 10, at 7:00 PM they will have a special guest in attendance, "Montefiore Honorary Captain of the Game" Chris Walker.
Chris Walker is a premature baby born at Montefiore (Albert Einstein). When he was born he wasn't breathing and needed a lot of assistance with life. Chris is now a very strong 19-year-old who has fought through several battles throughout his life. Most recently, he underwent orthopedic surgery to correct his Scoliosis on
August 21, a procedure that took ten hours due to bleeding issues. But thanks to Dr. Schulz and his team of doctors at Montefiore, Chris pulled through the surgery.
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Mike Watts (p-b-p) and Andrew Bogusch (color) announcing and can also be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on www.wfuvsports.org with Drew Casey (p-b-p) and James Decker (color) announcing. Follow the links above.
Fordham enters the game with a 12-9 overall record, 3-7 in the Atlantic 10, and is coming off an 82-60 A-10 loss to Saint Joseph's in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday afternoon. St. Bonaventure enters with a 15-6 overall record, 7-3 in the conference, after a 65-62 league win over Saint Louis at home on Sunday.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 38th meeting between Fordham and St. Bonaventure on the hardwood. The Bonnies lead the all-time series, which started in the 1955-56 season, 22-15 (two St. Bonaventure wins in 2002-03 were later forfeited for use of an ineligible player). The Bonnies have won two straight, including last year's match-up, 66-52, in the Reilly Center on March 7 as Marcus Posley netted 18 points and Youssou Ndoye added 15 for the Bonnies. The Rams won the 2012-13 meeting, breaking a six-game Bonnies winning streak in the series, 76-72, in the Reilly Center on March 9 as
Mandell Thomas netted 22 points and Branden Frazier added 16 points and five assists.
Notes• The 12 wins in 2015-2016 are the most for a Fordham team since the 2007-2008 squad won 12 times.
• Senior guard
Mandell Thomas enters the game with 1,345 career points, 14th on the Fordham all-time scoring list. Thomas is 27 points behind Charlie Yelverton (1968-1971) for 13th on the list.
• With his nine rebounds in the Saint Joseph's game, forward
Ryan Rhoomes brought his career total to 812, moving him ahead of Darryl Brown (1972-1975) and into seventh place on the Fordham career rebounding list. Rhoomes is 105 behind John Stevens (1962-1965) for sixth on the all-time list.
• Fordham head coach
Jeff Neubauer's teams at Eastern Kentucky were well known for their defensive prowess, routinely ranking at the top of the NCAA in steals and his first Fordham team is no different, recording 186 steals in 2015-2016 (8.9/game), second in the Atlantic 10 and tenth in the NCAA. The Rams have recorded ten or more steals in a contest ten times this season. Leading the Rams defense is senior guard
Mandell Thomas (2.45), who leads the conference in steals/game.
