Women's Basketball Outgunned by Dayton, 77-55

Rams Finish Sixth in the Atlantic 10 and Start the Conference Tournament Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m.

DAYTON, OHIO -- The Fordham women's basketball team concluded the regular season Sunday with a 77-55 loss to Dayton in Atlantic 10 play inside UD Arena. With the defeat, the Rams fall to 13-16 (8-8 A10) on the season, while the Flyers improve to 14-13 (7-9 A10) overall.

Fordham entered the contest knowing it already had the sixth seed locked up at this week's conference tournament at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va. The Rams will play the winner of #11 Massachusetts/#14 La Salle Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m.

Fordham trailed 18-13 after a quarter and 36-28 at the half, before Dayton outscored the Rams, 41-27, over the final 20 minutes.

Junior Danielle Burns led the way with 15 points, a game-high seven rebounds and a team-best three assists, while freshman Lauren Holden netted a season-high 15 points as well. Junior Samantha Clark added 11 points and seven rebounds before fouling out with six minutes remaining in the contest.

Fordham shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and made just 7-of-29 from distance. The Rams also turned it over 12 times, which led to a 14-2 disadvantage in points off turnovers, as the Flyers gave the ball up only seven times.

Dayton connected at a 47.5 percent clip (29-of-61) and knocked down 7-of-16 from behind the arc. The Flyers also won the battle on the glass, 40-30.

Five players scored in double-figures for the home team, with Saicha Grant-Allen tallying 16 points and five rebounds. Jenna Burdette added 15 points and eight assists, while Lauren Cannatelli chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Maddy Dennis finished with 11 points, and Jode Cornelie ended with 10 points and six rebounds.
