Volleyball Swept at VCU

Rams Continue Recent Road Slide

Richmond, Va. – The Fordham volleyball team's struggles on the road continued on Friday night with a three-set loss, 25-9, 25-17, 25-21 at fourth-place VCU in Atlantic 10 play. With the loss, the Rams fall to 10-15 overall and 3-7 in conference action, while their counterparts improve to 17-10, 7-3.
 
Going against the top blocking squad in the conference, Fordham struggled and produced its least efficient match of the season, hitting -.087 collectively. Olivia Fairchild once again led all players with 12 kills but also totaled 14 errors among her 40 total attacks, a -.050 mark. Kristen Ostach was the lone player in positive figures and enjoyed one of her most efficient matches of the season, with five kills at a .571 clip. Setters Maddy Walsh and Emily Fronk both tallied nine assists, Kaitlin Morley led the way with 10 digs, and a returning Elise Benjamin paced the team defensively with three total blocks.
 
Fordham rebounded from a rough first set and played VCU tight the rest of the way, limiting the hosts to .097 and .194 percentages over the next two frames, respectively. However, VCU were terrific on the defensive end, producing 17 blocks, one solo and 32 assists, led by Jasmin Sneed's 11 total blocks and Julia Adler's eight. Adler also led the team with seven kills.
 
The Rams complete the road portion of their A-10 slate with a trip to Davidson on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. After that, Fordham returns home to host the three remaining regular season matches in the Bronx.
