Â
The (visiting) Rams struggled mightily on offense in the first set, hitting below zero for the first time all season (-.048), while Rhode Island attacked at a consistent .250 pace the first two sets. Fordham improved incrementally in each set, hitting .043 in the second and .333 in the third, but the hosts took advance of their opponents' sloppiness to gain their seventh conference victory.
Â
Surprisingly,
Olivia Fairchild was the lone player in the match to record double-digit kills, with 12, now giving her 413 on the season to tie Jamee Stimson's mark set in 2006 for sixth-most in a single season. Fairchild needs 32 to tie Lisa Hipp's 2012 total.
Kaitlin Morley served up four aces to continue her recent hot stretch on serve, while sophomore captain
Breanna Jones made her return to the court after an injury layoff to play all three sets, tallying three kills.
Maddy Walsh assisted on 12 points, while
Emily Fronk tallied 10 in her lone set of action. Fairchild and
Kristen Ostach each had a solo block, with the latter tallying a team-high two total blocks.
Â
The Rams round out their road swing with matches at VCU and Davidson next weekend, on Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively. Fordham then finishes the regular season with three matches at home over two weekends. Â
