Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with George Washington

Defense Rules the Night as Neither Team Can Crack Scoreboard

Bronx, N.Y. – Looking at the season statistics for both the Fordham Rams and the George Washington Colonials, fans knew that scoring chances were going to come at a premium in this women's soccer match-up on Thursday night.  Both teams proved exactly why they rank in the top four defenses in the Atlantic 10, playing to a 0-0 draw at Jack Coffey Field.

With the tie, Fordham moves to 8-4-4 overall, 3-1-3 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington is now 10-4-2 on the year, 4-1-2 in the league.

Not many shots got through to either goalkeeper, but each had to be sharp in the first half.  First in the 33rd minute, Fordham keeper Megan Fitzgerald had to fight off a high and hard shot from MacKenzie Cowley for her only save of the night.

Megan Fitzgerald registered her third shutout of the season on Thursday.

At the other end, George Washington keeper Miranda Horn had a scary moment as Brooke Salmon made two great moves to get in on the Colonials' netminder, but Horn came out to force Salmon in to a George Washington defender, who was able to clear the ball and foil a scoring chance.

For the game, each keeper made one save for the shutout.  It was Fitzgerald's third of the season, while being the eighth for Horn.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 23rd, when the Rams host Richmond for Senior Day, beginning at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
