Men’s Basketball Travels to Massachusetts on Saturday

Rams take on Minutemen on NBC Sports Network

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University Rams continue their 2016 Atlantic 10 season, the 113th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by traveling to Amherst, Mass., to face the University of Massachusetts Minutemen in the Mullins Center on Saturday, January 30, at 12:00 PM.
 
The game will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network with Rich Lerner (p-b-p) and Dalen Cuff (color) announcing and can also be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on www.wfuvsports.org with Drew Casey (p-b-p) and Matt Murphy (color) announcing. Follow the links above.

Fordham enters the game with an 11-8 overall record, 2-6 in the Atlantic 10, after a 79-63 league loss at Rhode Island on Wednesday night. Massachusetts enters the game with an 8-11 overall record, 1-6 in the conference, after a 78-70 A-10 loss at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night.

Saturday afternoon's contest will be the 42nd meeting between Fordham and Massachusetts on the hardwood. The Minutemen lead the all-time series, which started in the 1967-68 season, 29-12. The Minutemen took both of last year's meetings, 78-72, in the Rose Hill Gym on February 1 as Trey Davis finished with 26 points for the Minutemen and 82-74 in Amherst on February 28 as Derrick Gordon netted 20 points and Maxie Esho added 17 for UMass while Mandell Thomas led all scorers for Fordham with 29.

• Fordham head coach Jeff Neubauer is looking to win his 200th career game as a head coach.
 
• The eleven wins in 2015-2016 are the most for a Fordham team since the 2007-2008 squad won 12 times.
 
• Fordham senior forward Ryan Rhoomes has recorded five double-doubles this year, the most recent an 18-point, ten-rebound game at Rhode Island on January 27. Rhoomes now has 12 career double-doubles. Rhoomes has scored in double figures in 18 of the 19 games this year.
 
• Senior guard Mandell Thomas enters the game with 1,337 career points, 14th on the Fordham all-time scoring list. Thomas is 35 points behind Charlie Yelverton (1968-1971) for 13th on the list.
 
• With his ten rebounds in the Rhode Island game, forward Ryan Rhoomes brought his career total to 791, placing him ninth on the Fordham career rebounding list. Rhoomes is ten behind Damon Lopez (1988-1991) for eighth on the all-time list.
 
• Fordham head coach Jeff Neubauer's teams at Eastern Kentucky were well known for their defensive prowess, routinely ranking at the top of the NCAA in steals and his first Fordham team is no different, recording 170 steals in 2015-2016 (8.9/game), second in the Atlantic 10 and eleventh in the NCAA.
