DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Fordham women's basketball team was defeated by Davidson, 69-51, Wednesday night in Atlantic 10 action inside Belk Arena. With the loss, the Rams fall to 8-11 (3-3 A10) on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 9-10 (3-3 A10) overall.
Cold shooting doomed Fordham, who shot only 30.6 percent (19-of-16) from the field and 23.7 percent (9-of-38) from three-point range. Meanwhile, Davidson finished at 47.3 percent (26-of-55), knocked down 5-of-9 from behind the arc and controlled the glass, 47-30
The Rams led 5-2 early on and trailed by a score of 13-11 after the first quarter. The home team started heating up in the second and outscored Fordham, 18-12, in the second stanza for a 31-23 halftime advantage.
Freshman
Lauren Holden knocked down a three to start the third quarter to climb the Rams back to within five at 31-26, but it was the closest they would come, as Davidson responded with the next six, before outscoring Fordham by four in the quarter to lead 50-38 after 30 minutes of action and eventually cruising to the 18-point victory.
Holden placed the Rams with 14 points and five rebounds to tie season highs in both categories while dishing out three assists in a season-best 38 minutes. Senior
Samantha Clark added 10 points, four rebounds and team highs of four assists and two steals, and junior
Danielle Burns pulled down a team-best six rebounds to go along with seven points and two steals.
Mackenzie Latt and Dakota Dukes each tallied 19 points and three assists to lead all scorers, with Latt grabbing nine rebounds and Dukes six. Hannah Early added 12 points and seven boards, while Alex Long chipped in 10 points, seven boards and four assists.
The Rams have a week off before returning to conference play next Wednesday, Jan. 27 when they travel to Richmond, Va. to take on VCU at 7 p.m.
