Dayton's Aaron Huesman's RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth inning spoiled Fordham's own ninth inning comeback, as the Flyers topped the Rams, 8-7, in the final Atlantic 10 contest of the season at Woerner Field in Dayton, Ohio.

With the loss, Fordham goes to 22-30 overall, 13-11 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton ends their season at 16-38, 5-19 in the league. Despite the loss, Fordham did qualify for next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship as the seventh seed.

For the third straight game, Dayton found the scoreboard first, scoring once in the second inning. A.J. Ryan connected on a one-out double and scored on a single by Zach Schira.

The Flyers made it 2-0 in the third, as Matt Coughlin singled to right and moved to second on a ground out. Coughlin then stole third and scored on a throwing error.

After a three-run fifth inning by the Flyers, Fordham responded with a three-run sixth to make it 5-3. With a runner on second and two outs,
Joseph DeVito doubled to left center to score
Jordan Gajdos.Â
Ryan McNally then connected on a two-run home to left, his second of the season.

The Flyers regained a three-run lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Matt Coughlin singled home Cale Dineen.

Fordham then put on the rally hat, scoring four times in the ninth to take a 7-6 lead.Â
Jason Lundy led off with a single to right and moved to second on a ground out. After a strikeout,
Matthew Kozuch drew a walk, while Galiano lined a single off the pitcher to load the bases.Â
Ian Edmiston then ripped a single to left, scoring Lundy and Kozuch to make it, 6-5. Gajdos then doubled to right center, scoring pinch-runner
Tim O'Connor and
Ian Edmiston for a 7-6 lead.

Dayton however would not be denied, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth to record an 8-7 win. With runners at the corners and two outs, Brad Burkhart scored on a wild pitch, while pinch-runner Charlie Dant scored on a single by Aaron Huesman for the walk off win.

Reliever
Joseph Serrapica (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in the ninth. Starter
Greg Weissert went the first four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while
Jimmy Murphy also threw four innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

At the plate, DeVito was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Edmiston was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Galiano and Lundy each had a pair of hits with Gajdos and McNally both driving in two runs.

The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, May 20
th, as they take on Rhode Island at 1:30 PM in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia
