Bronx, N.Y. – In his last two games of the 2013-2014 season, Fordham's Ryan Canty grabbed 29 rebounds, including 19 in one game, before a back injury sidelined him for all of the 2014-2015 season. Canty made up for lost time today as he recorded his fifth career double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing ten rebounds to lead the Rams to an 85-62 win over FDU in the Rose Hill Gym.

With the win, Fordham improves to 2-1 on the season while FDU falls to 1-3.

Canty was efficient today, shooting 5-for7 from the field and also blocking two shots in just 12 minutes of work. He was joined in double figures by four teammates, led by Christian Sengfelder and Joseph Chartouny, who each netted 15 points with Chartouny, who was 3-for-5 from deep, adding eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Ryan Rhoomes (12) and Mandell Thomas (11) also finished with double digit scoring numbers.

FDU entered the game averaging 83.3 ppg while the Rams were averaging 74.0 but fans that were looking for a high scoring game were disappointed in the first half as neither team could get on track. The Rams shot 40.0% from the field (12-30) while the Knights were colder, shooting at a 31.8% (7-22) clip. But the second half proved to be more offensive as both squads host over 50% with a combined 90 points being scored.

Fordham jumped out to a 10-2 lead 4:25 into the game before FDU scaled back the Rams' advantage to three, 10-7, three minutes later.

A 6-1 Fordham spurt bumped the lead to eight, 16-8, but FDU responded with an 8-1 run made it a one-point game, 17-16, with 8:11 remaining in the half. A Canty put back were the first of seven straight Fordham points as the Rams took a 24-16 lead following a Thomas three-point play with 6:29 on the clock.

Fordham led again by eight, 30-22, with 2:59 lefty in the half after a Canty jumper and the Rams closed out the half with five unanswered points to take a 35-22 lead at the break.

The Fordham lead would grow to 16 early in the second half before FDU trimmed it back to 12, 47-35, just over five minutes into the half. But an 11-2 Fordham run, led by three points each from Canty and Nych Smith, helped the Rams take a 21-point lead, 58-37, with 10:59 remaining and the Knights would get no closer than 16 the rest of the way.

The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday night, November 24, as they host the Colgate University Raiders in the Rose Hill Gym at approximately 8:30 p.m. (following the women's game with Lafayette which begins at 6:00 p.m.).

Notes
Thomas's 11 points brings his career total to 1,109 career points, moving him ahead of Damon Lopez and into 25th place on the Fordham all-time scoring list.

Rhoomes' three rebounds bring his career total to 653, 14th on the Fordham career rebounding list.

The Rams outrebounded the Knights 41-30 in the game and held FDU to shooting just 10.0% (1-10) from behind the arc.

Fordham forced 22 FDU turnovers and recorded eleven steals, turning the 22 turnovers into 26 points.

The Rams blocked four FDU shots bringing Fordham's season total to 18 in three games.

The game was the first ever between Fordham and FDU.

Fordham is now 56-27 all-time against schools currently in the NEC and will play two more this year (Central Connecticut on Dec. 5 and LIU on Dec. 8).
