Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Davidson, 3-0

Rams Reach .500 Mark for First Time This Season; Improve to 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 for First Time Since 2011

After a quiet first half, the Fordham men's soccer team exploded for three second half goals on Wednesday night, as the Rams improved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2011 with a 3-0 win at Davidson.

With the win, Fordham reached the .500 mark for the first time this year at 4-4-3 and moved to 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Davidson fell to 3-5-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

With just four shots recorded in the entire first half, Fordham and Davidson were much more offensive minded in the second half with ten shots each in the period.

The first of those shots to find the back of the net came in the 58th minute, courtesy of Fordham's Ryan Cupolo.  Off a centering pass from Kyle Bitterman, Cupolo one-timed the shot off the Davidson goalkeeper's hand and in for his second goal of the season.

Andrew Hickey netted his first goal of the year on Wednesday.

Fordham increased the lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute on a superb play from Andrew Hickey.  After picking up a clearing attempt, Hickey dribbled forward and fired a shot from the far side off the right post and in from 35 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Just three minutes later, the Rams capped the scoring with their third goal of the night.  Ole Sandnes was at the top of the arc and slid a pass to Jannik Loebe in the box.  Loebe quickly turned and fired from 15 yards out, netting his second goal of the season into the right side of the goal.  It marked the first time since 2006 games against George Washington and La Salle that Fordham had scored three times in back-to-back games.

Rashid Nuhu was steady in the net for Fordham, posting five saves for his fourth shutout of the season and fourth in the last five games.

The Fordham men's soccer team will remain on the road for their next Atlantic 10 contest which will take place on Saturday, October 10th, at Duquesne.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
