Loebe Leads Men’s Soccer to 2-1 Win Over Duquesne

Jannik Loebe Scores Twice as Rams Improve to 3-0 in League Play

Fordham's Jannik Loebe scored twice in the second half, as the Rams improved to 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play with a 2-1 win over the Duquesne Dukes at Rooney Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.

With the win, Fordham improved to 5-4-3 overall, 3-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne fell to 3-7-1 on the year, 1-2 in the league.  It marks the first time since 2009 that Fordham has won its first three Atlantic 10 games.

After a scoreless first half, Duquesne, who played with 10 men for most of the match, scored the opening goal of the game in the 57th minute.  Colin Phillips scored his seventh goal of the season from 18 yards out on a shot to the left side of goal with the assists going to Fredrik Borenstein and Chris Alescio.

Only 60 seconds later, Fordham tied the game at one.  Kyle Bitterman got the ball on the right side and crossed back toward the top of the box through three players.  Jannik Loebe then one-timed the shot to the right side of goal for his third goal of the season.

Loebe then struck again in the 65th minute to give Fordham a 2-1 lead.  Andrew Hickey sent a through ball toward the center of the offensive half of the field, hitting Loebe in stride. Loebe made one quick move around a Duquesne defender, and scored to the lower left corner of the net from 18 yards out.

The Fordham defense was able to hold off the Dukes over the final 25 minutes to preserve the 2-1 victory.  In goal, Rashid Nuhu made four saves for Fordham, while Evan Kozlowski had one save for Duquesne.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 17th, when the Rams host Saint Louis at 7:30 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
