In a tightly fought contest, an own goal by the Fordham Rams was the difference in the contest, as the Saint Louis Billikens took home a 1-0 victory at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday night.
With the loss, Fordham fell to 5-5-3 on the year, 3-1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Louis improved to 5-5-2 overall, 1-1-2 in the league.
The only goal of the contest came in the 48
th minute. Saint Louis' Vince Cicciarelli played a ball to the front of the net from the left side. Fordham defender
Matthew Lewis would deflect the cross into the net for an own goal.
The Rams did have an opportunity for the equalizer in the 84
th minute, when
Janos Loebe rang a shot off the left post. The rebound came out to
Andrew Hickey, who fired high over the crossbar for a goal kick.
Fordham outshot Saint Louis, 9-8, in the contest, while the Billikens had the 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Sascha Otte earned the shutout without making a save, while
Rashid Nuhu had a pair of saves for the Rams.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 21
st, when the Rams travel to Rhode Island for an Atlantic 10 Championship game re-match from a year ago against URI. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
