Northeastern Takes Lead at Rose Hill Classic

Northeastern Posts Two Wins on Day One, While Fairleigh Dickinson & Rider Each Earn First Win of the Season

The 13th edition of the Rose Hill Classic Volleyball tournament began with four matches on Friday.  Northeastern posted wins over Rider and Fairleigh Dickinson, while the Broncs and Knights each recorded a win over Fordham.
 
Here is a breakdown of all four matches:
 
Match 1 – Northeastern 3, Rider 1 | Box Score
 
Northeastern started the Rose Hill Classic with a four-set win over the Rider Broncs.  Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-22.
 
The Huskies were led by Cherylain Dizon and Brigitte Burcescu with 11 kills each, while Taylor Reiter notched 10 kills.  Jamie Bredahl just missed a triple-double with eight kills, 20 assists, and eight digs for Northeastern.
 
Jaclyn Webber led Rider's attack with a team-high 17 kills to go with 16 digs and three blocks.
 
 
Match 2 – Fairleigh Dickinson 3, Fordham 1 | Box Score
 
Fairleigh Dickinson knocked off host Fordham in match two of the Rose Hill Classic in four sets by scores of 25-13, 18-25, 25-23, and 25-18.
 
After the Knights snagged the first set, Fordham bounced back with a seven-point win in the second set.  The Rams were paced by Sarah Skelton, who had four kills and two blocks in the set.
 
In the crucial third set, Fordham led 23-21, but the Knights rallied for four straight points to take the match lead, two sets to one, and then cruised to a seven-point win in set four to win the match.
 
Carly O'Sullivan was the top performer for FDU, notching a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.
 
For Fordham, Skelton notched a team-high 10 kills and three blocks, while Abigail Konovodoff tallied five kills, 35 assists, and 11 digs.  Brennan Delsing finished with seven kills, eight digs, and three blocks.
 
 
Match 3 – Northeastern 3, Fairleigh Dickinson 1 | Box Score
 
Northeastern made it 2-0 in the 2014 Rose Hill Classic with a four-set victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.  Set scores were 25-9, 25-11, 23-25, and 25-20.
 
The Huskies connected on a .311 hitting percentage as a team, compared to the Knights' .099 attack percentage.
 
Brigitte Burcescu tallied a match-high 20 kills to go with nine digs and four blocks for Northeastern, while Jamie Bredahl had seven kills, 35 assists, and 13 digs.
 
FDU was paced by Allison Butler, who had a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs.

In a wild match to finish day one of the Rose Hill Classic, Rider held on for a five-set victory over Fordham.  Set scores were25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, and 15-12.
 
After Rider won the first two sets, Fordham battled its way back to even the match at two sets each.  That surge for Fordham was led by Lisa Hipp and Brennan Delsing, who had seven kills each over the third and fourth sets.
 
In the fifth set, Rider got out to a 6-1 lead and kept that five-point edge until match point at 14-9.  Fordham then scored three straight points to make it, 14-12.  However a kill by Kaitlyn Griffin finished off the match in favor of the Broncs.
 
For Fordham, Hipp registered a double-double with 19 kill sand 16 digs, while Abigail Konovodoff had five kills, 47 assists, and 11 digs.  Brianna O'Neill also had a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs with Grace Muller notching 20 digs and six assists for the Rams.
 
Rider was led by Jaclyn Webber's 18 kills and 20 digs.
 
The Rose Hill Classic wraps up on Saturday with two matches.  Fairleigh Dickinson and Rider start the day at 10:30 AM, while Fordham and Northeastern face-off at 1:00 PM.
