Behind a .355 hitting percentage and 11 service aces, the George Washington Colonials posted a three-set Atlantic 10 victory over the Fordham Rams on Saturday night at the Smith Center in Washington, D.C. Final set scores were 25-15, 25-18, and 25-23.
George Washington (11-4, 2-0 A-10) was on fire in the opening set, hitting .522 as a team with only one error to go with five service aces.
In set two, Fordham (0-15, 0-2 A-10) was within striking distance, down just two points, 17-15, but kills from Chidima Osuchukwu and Maggie Skjelbred and a Colonials block increased the lead to five, 20-15. Fordham could only get back within four points, before George Washington closed the set out, 25-18.
The Rams gave the Colonials all they could handle in the third set. George Washington led by as many as six points, but Fordham would get within one at 20-19, as well as fighting off a match point to get the score to 24-23. However, Loren Williams connected on a kill for the final point, giving George Washington the match.
For Fordham,
Lisa Hipp notched a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while
Brianna O'Neil had 10 kills and four digs.
Abigail Konovodoff and
Emily Fronk split the setting duties, as Konovodoff had 19 assists and four digs with Fronk having 15 assists and one dig.
Brennan Delsing also added eight kills and five digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, October 3
rd, when the Rams return home for the first time in a month, as they host the Duquesne Dukes at 3:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym. It'll be a Flashback Friday, where prizes will be awarded for the best 90's themed outfit in attendance.
