The Fordham volleyball team opened Atlantic 10 action on Friday night, as the Rams faced off against the George Mason Patriots at the RAC in Fairfax, Va. The Patriots used ten team blocks and 10 kills from Morghan Martin to post a three-set win over the Rams by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 0-14 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Mason improved to 5-9 on the year, 1-0 in the league.
The first set saw George Mason jet out to an early 6-2 lead and did not look back, hitting an impressive .320 in the set as a team.
Fordham would keep things close midway through set two at 14-13 following a kill by
Chandler Moore. However, three straight points by George Mason extended the lead to 17-13. After a couple of sideouts, the Patriots closed the set with 5-0 run to win by nine.
In set three, Fordham took an 11-9 lead after a kill and a block by
Sarah Skelton, as well as a kill by
Brianna O'Neil. The Patriots then rallied for four straight points, three of which were Fordham errors, to regain the lead at 13-11. George Mason built the lead to six, 22-16, before the Rams tried to rally back one final time. Fordham got a kill from
Brennan Delsing and two Patriot errors to pull within three, 22-19. George Mason though would not allow the Rams to get any closer, closing out the match with the final three points, the last on a kill by Tiffany Clarke.
For Fordham,
Lisa Hipp notched a team-high 10 kills to go with nine digs, while
Abigail Konovodoff had a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs. Delsing also had seven kills and six digs for the Rams.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, September 27
th, as the Rams play at George Washington at 7:00 PM.
