th minute,
Sydney White's shot deflected off an Iona defender and into the net to give Fordham a 1-0 win, the Rams' fifth straight.
With the win, Fordham improved to 5-1-0 on the year, while Iona fell to 3-4-0. It marked the tenth straight win by Fordham over Iona with the last five meetings all finishing with scores of 1-0.
After a scoreless first half, the two offenses started to get going early in the second half.
First, it was
Ivana Lahcanski on a quick shot from 15 yards out, that was caught by Iona goalkeeper Lauren Ferris for a save in the 51
st minute. Then, it was
Maria Lorena Canicatti with the next chance for Fordham from distance that just went over the crossbar in the 59
th minute.
It was at this point Ferris left the game for Iona, bringing on Morgan McBrier in net. The Gaels then went on the attack with a shot from Charlotte Stuart, which was stopped by Fordham goalkeeper
Megan Fitzgerald with the rebound shot going over the net. Moments later, Iona's Julia Campagna hit the crossbar, keeping the game scoreless.
Then in the 77
th minute, the Rams finally broke through.
Natalie Sims' cross deflected off a player and found
Sydney White on the right side of the box. White then settled the ball and fired a shot toward goal. Iona defender Kim Marra took the shot in the chest, as she attempted to keep the ball out, but it ended up in the back of the net for an own goal and a 1-0 lead for Fordham.
The Rams held off a late flurry by Iona, which included another stop by Fitzgerald in the 81
st minute to keep the clean sheet and the Rams' fifth straight win.
Ally White and Fitzgerald shared the goalkeeper duties for the shutout with Fitzgerald making two saves.
The Fordham women's soccer team will look to tie the program record for consecutive wins at six on Sunday, September 14
th, when the Rams host The Citadel at noon on Jack Coffey Field.
