Christian Sengfelder Signs Men’s Basketball Letter of Intent with Fordham University

German forward to join Rams in 2014-2015

Bronx, NY (April 30, 2014) - Fordham University men's basketball head coach Tom Pecora announced the signing of forward Christian Sengfelder (Leverkusen, Germany/Urspring Academy) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-2015 season.

"We are very excited that Christian has decided to attend Fordham University and join the Fordham basketball family," said Pecora. "His ability to play around the basket and on the perimeter, along with his tough competitive nature, will be valuable to our program as we move forward."

Sengfelder is currently a member of the Urspring team in Schelklingen, Germany, where he plays for head coach Michael Sproecker. He is averaging a double-double for the team this season, scoring 18.7 ppg and pulling down 10.4 rpg. He is shooting 59.7% from the field and scored 25 point (shooting 3-6 from behind the arc) and added seven rebounds against Bamberg in the NBBL Quarterfinals last Thursday.

Sengfelder has led Urspring to another Top 4 appearance, the eighth straight Top 4 appearance for the school, where the team will try to seal its sixth championship. Last year's championship team included Malik Mueller (Virginia Tech) and Kenneth Ogbe (Utah).

In 2013, Sengfelder played for Germany at the U-18 European Championships Division B where he averaged 8.7 ppg and 4.6 rpg in nine games with five steals and three blocks as he led the German team to a 4-1 record in pool play.

"I'm really excited about being a Ram and I think that the step to go to Fordham is a big challenge and also a big honor," said Sengfelder. "I'm ready for this challenge and happy about being a member of the Fordham family."

"Christian is a skilled and tough kid on the court," said Ralph Junge, head of the Urspring program. "Averaging a double-double tells a lot. Since he established his three-point shot, his game got so much more versatile and he reached the next level. Fordham will get a wonderful kid on and off court. We have sent over 20 young men to play Division 1 basketball the past ten years. I am sure that Christian will have a great career at Fordham."
