Ryan Rhoomes scored 13 point and tied his career-high 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the year but it wasn't enough as Fordham fell to UMass Lowell, 64-57, in the Rose Hill Gym.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 1-3, while UMass Lowell improves to 3-2.
The Rams jumped out to an 8-2 lead four minutes into the game with five of those points coming from
Eric Paschall, including a rim-rattling dunk.
Mandell ThomasAfter a Marco Banegas-Flores basket made it a four-point game, Fordham scored five straight to take a 13-4 lead following a
Christian Sengfelder three-pointer with 12:55 on the clock.
The Fordham offense then went cold as the River Hawks used a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the night, 16-15, on a Jahad Thomas layup with 6:48 remaining in the half.
A Rhoomes three-point play and a Sengfelder jumper over the next 1:42 helped Fordham take a 20-16 lead but UMass Lowell outscored the Rams 8-5 over the final five minutes to take a 25-24 lead at the break.
The game was tied four times over the first 7:20, the final at 44 following a pair of
Mandell Thomas free throws. The River Hawks then went on a 13-2 run to take an eleven-point lead, 57-46, on a Tyler Livingston three-pointer with 6:26 left.
The Rams used a pair of free throws from Rhoomes, a Sengfelder jumper and a
Jon Severe charity shot to cut the deficit back to six, 57-51, with 5:07 remaining but that was as close as the Rams would get.
Paschall finished with a game-high 16 points and he added eight rebounds while Thomas chipped in with ten points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 29, as they host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the Rose Hill Gym at 4:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on SportsNet New York (SNY).
NotesRhoomes' previously pulled down 15 rebounds against Dayton last January… He also blocked three shots in the game… The Rams outrebounded the Rover Hawks, 52-38… It was the first ever meeting between the two schools.
